Origin
A late-imperial four-character phrase compressing two parallel pairs — 情 (emotion) + 投 (matching), and 意 (intention) + 合 (agreeing). The structure says rapport runs through both emotional and intellectual registers at once. Common in fiction since the Ming-Qing era as the shorthand for "this couple just clicks."
