Kango is an AI Chinese tutor that lives on your phone. We built it for one specific thing: getting you to actually speak Mandarin — not just recognize characters or tap multiple choice answers.
Why we built it
Most Chinese-learning apps are great at one thing: making you feel productive. You tap, you swipe, you keep streaks, and after six months you can still barely string a sentence together when a real Chinese speaker says 你好 to you.
The reason is simple. Almost all of them train recognition — seeing a character and knowing what it means. The thing you actually need is production — opening your mouth and saying a full Mandarin sentence with the right tones, the right grammar, the right word choice for the situation.
Production is uncomfortable. Recognition is easy. So most apps don't ask you to do it.
